FAQs
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I am partnered with The Lactation Network, an organization that is working to connect more families with insurance covered lactation care. You can follow this link to submit your insurance and see if you are covered through TLN. I am working to credential with MA state funded healthcare providers but this can be a long process. If you have questions or concerns about insurance coverage or cash pay options please reach out to me via the contact me page.
How can I communicate with you between visits?
When you establish care with me you will be given access to a patient portal with a HIPPA compliant secure chat! You are free to reach out for unlimited support between visits, and I will respond within 24hrs (usually much faster!).
How should I prepare for my visit?
Start by making a list of questions, concerns, or goals ahead of time to address during your visit. I will send you a full health history questionnaire for you and your baby ahead of our visit, and the more information I have the more helpful I can be. When scheduling, it can be helpful to choose a time that aligns with when your baby usually breastfeeds (during the first few weeks this can be tricky!), and account for about a 90min visit. For home visits, plan for the following:
A flat surface to set up a feeding scale
Make available whatever lactation technology you routinely use: a breast pump, nursing pillows, nipple shields, etc.
Choose the space in your house where you most frequently feed your baby.
If possible, have a partner or family member present to listen, observe and maybe even take photos on your phone that you can use for reference later.
How many times will I need to meet with you?
I care for each of my breastfeeding parents and babies based on their unique needs. There are many reasons to reach out to a lactation consultant and each requires a different amount of follow up. Some clients just need some foundational assistance in the early days of breastfeeding to help the achieve a comfortable and effective latch. This could be achieved in 1-2 visits! Others may reach out for difficulty with infant weight gain, low milk supply, or other challenges that require more thorough follow up. In those instances most clients will book between 3-6 visits with an IBCLC.
Should I book a virtual visit?
Virtual visits are a great option for when you have questions or concerns regarding breastfeeding and you would like to talk them through with an IBCLC. For example, you are returning to work and would like to create a back to work pumping schedule. Maybe you are approaching the 6 month mark and curious about how to introduce solids to your breastfeeding baby! There are many developmental changes that occur throughout an infant’s breastfeeding journey, and each can present a new set of challenges. Virtual visits are a great way to get evidence based answers to all of your breastfeeding questions!
